Tricia Davis, owner of Signing Store and creator of the Baby Can Sign! instructional program, grew passionate about communicating with the hearing impaired through her childhood experiences. Growing up with a sister born hard-of-hearing brought her face-to-face with the unique challenges hearing disabilities can bring.
Inspired by her family’s experience, Tricia obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Communicative Disorders, and later a Masters Degree in Audiology. She has studied American Sign Language (ASL) at various institutions in Toronto and Calgary, and most recently during week-long ASL immersions at the Ontario Camp of the Deaf in Parry Sound, Ontario.
Tricia has put her formal education and training to work as a Clinical and Educational Audiologist, tutor and instructor, honing her skills in both hospital and school settings. Working alongside speech-language pathologists, as well as physio- and occupational therapists, she’s assisted people of all ages and abilities, from babies to seniors and those with special needs.
Since launching Signing Store and Baby Can Sign! in 2004, Tricia has been rewarded with a number of memorable interactions with clients and customers. She feels privileged for the opportunity to enrich the lives of families seeking to share a language with pre-verbal and special needs children. She sees proof of the many benefits of using ASL with children — from improved communication, memory and logical thinking, to reduced tantrums and breaking barriers with special needs children, such as those with autism or Down syndrome. It encourages her to work harder each day to provide the highest quality products, advice and support.
Tricia lives with her two teenaged children in Calgary, Alberta. She is committed to her exciting journey as an independent business owner, continually pursuing professional development and attempting to spread the benefits of ASL to more families across Canada.
